ROSTARR Korean-American, b. 1971

“To me, being an artist is to be driven to create by the realization that your art is bigger than you and that you are just a vehicle to serve the purpose.”

Romon Kimin Yang, known as ROSTARR, relocated from Daegu, South Korea, to Washington, D.C., at just one year old. Although not encouraged by his family to become an artist, his passion for abstract design thrived. The pivotal moment came in 1989 when he moved to NYC, igniting his creativity amidst a vibrant art scene.

By 2002, ROSTARR delved into calligraphic experimentation, merging minimalist abstraction with free-form elements. His dynamic works embody energy and movement, inviting viewers to explore the interplay between chaos and order. This artistic journey reflects a lifelong assimilation of diverse cultures, profoundly influenced by travels, including his transformative 2008 tour through sacred sites in Tibet.

ROSTARR’s compositions resonate with a rich emotional depth, exploring the human experience while challenging notions of reality and abstraction. He believes that art transcends the artist, serving as a vehicle for universal connection and introspection. Each stroke in his work is a poetic expression, forging a profound dialogue with the viewer.
