Imes Paskalia Indonesian, b. 1996

"I have a peculiar thought process in the way I approach my works.

When most artists would do sketches or drawings, the images I portray mostly come from keywords that appear in my ‘psychosis’.

From there I try to interpret my ideas and relate them to ongoing social issues."

Imes Paskalia is a visual artist based in Indonesia, having earned her Fine Arts degree from Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore in 2018. Upon returning to her homeland, she has dedicated herself to the exploration of painting and drawing.

Her work profoundly engages with themes of mental health, drawing from her personal experiences with Bipolar Disorder and PTSD. For Paskalia, art becomes both a coping mechanism and a vital means of survival, transforming her inner struggles into visual memories that articulate the complexities of her psyche.

Through an abstract expressionist lens, her practice invites viewers to experience the interplay of her personal narrative and artistic expression. She keenly observes the world, empathizing with the myriad of human experiences, and discovers beauty in the ordinary. This reflective engagement serves as a form of spiritual meditation, grounding her in moments of stillness and gratitude, ultimately enriching her artistic journey.
